Sweet Baby Dreams

Now the first of December was covered with snow
And so was the turnpike from Stockbridge to Boston
Lord, the Berkshires seemed dreamlike on account of that frosting
With ten miles behind me and ten thousand more to go…
(James Taylor)

Now the first of December, no snow in the sky,
The Languedoc winters are so soft and gentle
But as Christmas grows closer I feel sentimental
Thinking about people that I’ve left behind
Won’t you let me go on in my mind…
Writing a song helps me find
Something a bit like peace of mind.

Goodnight my moonlight family
Sleep well wherever you are
A wool white as snow is your blanket I know
And may it be studded with stars

Raindrops on tin roofs and everywhere shouting
The African summer had come to an end
I shouted ‘I love you,’ did you ever hear me
I think you figured it out in the end

Goodnight my moonlight family
Sleep well wherever you are
A wool white as snow is your blanket I know
And may it be studded with stars

Night falls at four, the train rolls on to Murmansk

A cold Arctic autumn, I can see through my tears

You held my hand though I knew you were hurting

Wondering like I was, why are we here

I hope I said I was glad you were here

Goodnight my moonlight family
Sleep well wherever you are
A wool white as snow is your blanket I know
And may it be studded with stars

It seems like last week in Canadian winter

The snow won’t stop blowing outside of the bar

I buy you some coffee, I try to convince you

That your dreams are still there, no matter how far

And your friends are wherever you are.

Goodnight moonlight family

Remember you’re never alone

Through all you go through, I’m always with you

I’d call you right now, but I don’t have a phone

Goodnight moonlight family

 I’ll dream we’re together again

Now I’m far off alone but one day I’ll come home

I don’t know where yet, and I don’t know when

Sweet dreams every night until then

Goodnight my moonlight family
Sleep well wherever you are
A wool white as snow is your blanket I know
And may it be studded with stars
